I decided to go to the park (Joe Palaia Park, formerly Deal Test Site) to Rollerblade today, because it was 73 degrees Fahrenheit (23 Celsius) and sunny.
…what the HECK!
This is JANUARY in NEW JERSEY, for Pete’s sake! The whole reason I LIVE here and not somewhere southern is because I like TEMPERATE CLIMATES. I need a freaking WINTER. I mean, the flowers froze once or twice, and now they think winter’s over. We are going to have blooms by the end of this month. That is decidedly NOT OKAY.
…Anyway. What with the unseasonal warmth, everyone else in the area got the bright idea of spending their Saturday in the park (though not the fourth of July- bonus points if you get the reference), too. So here we see a couple kids on bikes.
(Bikes, bikes, …I’ve got a bike, you can ride it if you like, it’s got a basket, a bell that rings and things to make it look good..)
I’m tired. Apologies for the multiple random song references.

I posted about the weather yesterday, JC. But we don’t have 70F degrees! My daughter lives in NYC and she called yesterday to say how warm it was. Crazy! I agree with you that I want winter. I lived in Pasadena 5 years, and I moved! I want 4 seasons. I hope this year is an anomaly, and we will be back to normal next year. But I’m getting worried.
This looks like a great park for blading or biking.

I hope this is the only year like this, too. Of course once I say that, it’s a sure thing that we’ll be hit with 10-foot snowstorms all next winter.
There’s a 3-mile system of nice smooth asphalt for all your fitness needs; it’s the best place for blading that I can find within a 10-minute drive.
(There’s a very nice bike trail about 40 minutes away, but… that’s 40 minutes away.)

El Nino is returning this year but what would have been really scary is if you had ran up to those kiddie bikes, shook them, and said: “will a helmet protect you from this!” That’s seasonless fun.

Can’t. There’s a sign about 25 feet from where this was taken that basically says that by being in the park you are agreeing to promote a positive and safe attitude. I don’t see terrorizing children as a particularly positive nor safe activity (though probably quite fun).
