This is awesome, though I’d have probably cropped it differently.

Yeah, I’m honestly annoyed with the cropping, too.

Wonderful picture. I love the boardwalk in winter (it’s better when there’s lots of snow, heaped all around, but that may be coming yet…) I don’t mind the cropping but I think if the contrast were adjusted, it might emphasize the shadows more. Just a thought.

::laughs:: Actually, Justin, this IS the adjusted contrast. In a b/w photo, contrast is the first thing I mess with (closely followed by exposure and color filters). Are you saying the contrast is too much? I might agree with you on that. I pushed the darks and lights as far as I could without making either one obscenely overwhelming. Because of my inability to do any detailed mouse-guided touchups (read: I can’t mess with just the snow), the whites in this photo upset the values for everything else.
Thanks for your comment!

i think the compostion is great. it is a balanced photo. i wouldn’t have cropped it. the grass in the bottom left balances that in the upper right.
i am off to the beach now!! tally-ho!!

this is really nice…love the grains of the boards….hate the ones without them (*tile, plastic boards, etc)

Ja- Most things in Ocean Grove will give you a splinter. A few benches and a small section of the boardwalk are in fact constructed from plastic boards. But I’m sure you knew that.

You compose such beautifully stark images that it’s hard to look away. I can’t wait to see more.
