What’s left of the Asbury Park casino. Or what was left of it a few months ago.
Below is a photo with a little more context.
It sure don’t look like it used to. Click the image below to see just how much of the structure has been obliterated.

I like this series very much – photographic archaeology

Oh, this is really depressing. What a horrible way to wake up.
When did it collapse? Or I guess it was partly pulled down. Very very very sad.

The thing is, Paul, that a lot of people still have memories associated with this place and others like it in Asbury Park… I myself vaguely recall going on the carousel, which is now boarded up and has been for years. They’re beautiful buildings, and it’s really a shame that they’ve been left to rot. But it makes for an interesting photographic study, as you say.
Bath DP Host- Demolished, apparently, happened in late December 2006.

Josy, we’ve had two seaside “casinos” demolished here – they did save the historic carousel at one of them.
Land with an ocean view – there’s just too much money involved if you develop it. So it gets flattened.

I didn’t realize they were tearing it down. Too bad. I have some great childhood memories of the amusements at Asbury Park.

Are they going to demolish the entire thing, or rebuild part of it?
I have many childhood, teen and young adult memories of Asbury. I was one of the last to be able to “cruise the circuit”

I think they’re rebuilding part of it–they’ve posted some plans nearby: See this post for details.
And the whole area is less closed-off to the public than it has been in the past. The carousel part of the casino, which has been sealed with boards and broken glass for as long as I can remember is now semi-renovated and open to the public.
It’s funny you should mention “cruising the circuit”- my mom tried to explain that to me the other day and I just couldn’t grasp it.
“You mean… you’d just… drive around? In a circle? For hours? For no reason?”

I moved out of state. Can someone write what the Casino looks like now? Has it totally been torn down?

As of August 2008, the Casino was in better shape. They took down the fence, and the entire structure is now a go-through walkway between Asbury Park and Ocean Grove. There were some plans for renovation, but I’m not sure how that’s going.
They did remove everything to the right (ocean-side) of that big pillar.
Here’s a picture I took in March 2008 (with links to some other photos), and it looked the same through August. My parents have taken walks down there within the past couple months, too, and they tell me it still looks about the same.
You can also type “Casino” in the search box in the right-hand sidebar (under the calendar) and see what recent-ish photos you come up with.

Thanks. If I had a billion dollars, you know? I hope someone steps up and rebuilds it. Does Trump know about this website?
